5 of the Top Fourth of July Fireworks Displays

Fireworks.

On July Fourth weekend, nearly every community in the country gathers on lawn chairs and blankets to watch the local fireworks display. There are dozens of spectacular shows in all 50 states, but a few use big budgets, specialty fireworks or even a live music soundtrack to stand out from the rest. Here are 5 of the best fireworks displays in the country, from Forbes.com:

1. Macy’s Ignite the Night

The New York Fourth of July fireworks display is generally considered to be the best in the country. Last year’s show featured live music and more than 40,000 shells and effects launched from four barges in the Hudson River.

2. Addison Kaboom Town!

The population of this Dallas suburb swells from 15,000 to 500,000 during the Fourth of July. The fireworks show is legendary in the region, and provides a yearly economic boost to the community.

3. Music City July 4th: Let Freedom Sing!

Nashville calls its July Fourth celebration “the largest fireworks display in the South.” In 2012, the show was choreographed to a live performance of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

4. Fourth of July at the National Mall

No one does Independence Day quite like Washington D.C. The fireworks display is made even more stunning when the bursts of color illuminate the Washington Monument and Capitol Building on the National Mall.

5. Lights on the Lake Fireworks

On the West Coast, the fireworks show at Lake Tahoe is one of the best in the region. The reflection on the lake gives viewers two fireworks displays for the price of one.

Even without the big budgets and live music soundtracks, some of the most memorable fireworks shows are at home in your own community. Do you have a favorite fireworks show that sticks with you to this day?
