Golf is more than a game — it’s an opportunity to give back.
That’s why Nationwide sponsors tournaments like the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, which, for the 10th consecutive year, supports the life-saving work of Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the nation’s largest pediatric hospital and research center.
“This tournament truly represents how Nationwide is more than a business,” says Chris Svec, Nationwide’s director of Brand Reputation and president of Champions of the Community, the tournament’s host organization. “Over the past 10 years, we’ve raised almost $6 million to support children and families in central Ohio and around the world. That’s what the tournament is all about.”
Nationwide has partnered with the PGA Tour for nearly 30 years, and became a founding partner of NCHC, a Web.com Tour event, in 2007. Since 2012, Nationwide has served as a primary sponsor.
Nationwide’s sports sponsorship events have raised more than $15 million for the hospital since 2011— helping it become a destination for patients from around the world and some of the most renowned physicians and scientists in health care.
This year’s champion, Grayson Murray, personally embraced the cause at the heart of the tournament. At the beginning of the week, the Web.com rookie pledged $50 for every birdie and $100 for every eagle he made during the tournament. Nationwide offered to match his donation.
Murray made 18 birdies during the week on his way to capturing the 2016 NCHC title. As he accepted the trophy, he announced to the crowd that he would increase his donation to $2,000 in support of the hospital.
