Tickets are available for the inaugural Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200.
The December 2012 announcement of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was more than an exciting moment for thousands of motorsports fans in Ohio. It was another example of how Nationwide uses its sports sponsorships to benefit the community and further its long-standing support of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The race (scheduled for August 16–17) benefits Children’s Hospital through collaborative fundraising and awareness efforts carried out by NASCAR, Mid-Ohio and Nationwide.
According to Nationwide Chief Marketing Officer Matt Jauchius, “We have more than five decades of committed support to Nationwide Children’s and our sports sponsorships have raised more than $7.5 million for the hospital since 2006.”
Nationwide and Children’s Hospital partnership
Nationwide and its associates have supported Children’s Hospital since the 1950s. In 2006, Nationwide made a transformative $50 million grant to the hospital that funded several practice areas and was critical to funding the hospital’s 2.4 million square foot expansion in 2011. Children’s Hospital is now the second-largest pediatric hospital in the nation. It serves nearly one million patient visits each year and cares for children from every state and 28 countries around the world.
Throughout this growth, Children’s Hospital has stayed true to its founding mission to provide care to every child, regardless of the parents’ ability to pay. The hospital gave more than $120 million in uncompensated and undercompensated care to children in 2011.
“Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the country’s great children’s hospitals,” said Steve Allen, MD and CEO of the hospital. “It’s only through philanthropy and events such as this that allow us to continue to meet our mission and reach the growing number of children who need our services.”
Sports sponsorships give back
Nationwide has sponsored the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship golf tournament and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon and Half Marathon for several years. Nationwide’s title sponsorship of the Memorial Tournament, a PGA TOUR event hosted in Columbus, and the related Legends Luncheon also benefit the hospital.
The Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 marks the first time that a NASCAR sponsorship has been brought into the fold. Leaders estimate that through the four sponsorships, Nationwide will donate $3.2 million to the hospital in 2013.
“Sponsorships allow us to build deep relationships within communities because we can engage with fans through something they’re passionate about,” said Jauchius. “Those relationships not only build our business and our brand, they allow us to use that passion and excitement to help ensure the world-class pediatric health care at Nationwide Children’s is available for generations to come.”
