Go Along for the Ride with Dale Jr.

The Nationwide #88 race car

Forget about having your name in lights. For Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans, an even bigger thrill would be seeing your name on the No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS as it races around the track. This year, once again, Earnhardt fans can add their name to his car for a great cause.

As part of his involvement with sponsor Nationwide and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Earnhardt is once again hitting the track with a program designed to raise awareness and funds for the hospital. The “Ride with Dale Jr. to Help Kids Everywhere” campaign is a unique way to show your support for this important cause.

For a donation of $250, which will directly benefit the hospital, you can add your name to the hood of the car, which will run on the 1.5-mile track at Kentucky Speedway on July 8.

The car’s special paint scheme, which was revealed in late April, allows room for up to 315 names to be added to the car. In honor of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the car’s temporary look includes plenty of butterflies – which are part of the hospital’s logo – and the white car also is sporting a blue, yellow and orange modified RPM bar accented with butterflies.

A key feature of the car is the bright orange roof on top of the white paint scheme.  As many Earnhardt fans know, orange is the driver’s favorite color and was one of the key characteristics of the design that appealed to him.

“I really like the Nationwide Children’s Hospital paint scheme and I’m looking forward to racing it at Kentucky”

Earnhardt first unveiled the hood fundraising campaign for Nationwide Children’s Hospital last year, but this year he and his team have added yet another way to thank participating donors for their support.

In addition to the thrill of having their name on the car’s hood, donors will receive a limited edition, 1:24 scale replica of the No. 88 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Chevrolet SS with their name displayed on the model. Lionel Racing is casting five different versions of the car, each bearing 63 of the names, so the names of all donors can more easily be read.

“We really appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity in raising needed funds for the hospital,” says Jim Digan, president of NCH Foundation. “The research and clinical care at Nationwide Children’s Hospital improve the lives of children and their families across the United States and in nearly 50 countries around the world.”

Nationwide Children’s Hospital, one of the largest and most comprehensive pediatric hospitals and research institutions in the U.S., is based in Columbus, Ohio, but serves children from around the world at its nearly 70 different facilities. It provides more than $97 million in charity care and community benefit services every year and is a leader in life-saving research for neonatology, oncology, neuroscience and more.
