High Mileage

High Mileage Nothing lasts forever. Well, nothing except diamonds and Irv Gordon’s 1966 Volvo.

Irv’s candy-apple-red 1966 Volvo P1800 is approaching the 3-million-mile mark, about the same distance it would take to travel to the Moon more than 12 times. Guinness World Records awarded Irv’s Volvo the title of Highest Mileage Vehicle, a record he’s held since 2002.

The secret to Irv’s super high mileage is simple: regular maintenance and repairs.

A car with that kind of mileage isn’t as far-fetched as you may think. Professional mechanic and Volvo expert Jordan Weine told the Associated Press, “because Gordon takes care of his car, he is able to get high mileage without much change to the car’s original mechanics.”

That’s it. You may not get to 3 million miles, but by keeping up with regular car maintenance and repairs, most cars will last.

Do you have a high-mileage vehicle? What’s the farthest you’ve pushed your odometer, and what was your secret to a long car life?
