Getting to Know NASCAR Pit Crew Members [Slideshow]


Keeping a racecar in prime running condition is no easy task, especially when you only have seconds to do it. Every week, NASCAR pit crew members work tirelessly in the background to make sure the race goes smoothly. We got the chance to sit down with two such pit crew members to find out more about their experiences on and off the track.

Position:  Front Tire Changer

What he does: “I change the front tires on the car when it pulls into the pit.”

Hometown: Detroit, MI

Age: 36

Length of time on No. 88 team: 1 year

Previous job: Worked on the No. 24 pit crew

Favorite race memory: The 2014 Brickyard 400 when No. 24 won at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Favorite track: Homestead-Miami Speedway

Sports played in high school/college: Baseball

When I’m away from the track, my hobbies are: fishing, watersports, gaming, golf, riding dirt bikes

Favorite superhero: Deadpool

Favorite movie: Star Wars (all of them)

Last song listened to: “Locust” by Machine Head

If I could only take three things with me to a deserted island, they’d be: water, rum and fire starter

Position: Gas Man

What I do: “I make sure the car has a full tank of gas after every stop during the race.”

Hometown: Omaha, NE

Age: 26

Length of time on No. 88 team: 7 months

Previous job: Back up pit crew member for the 5 and 24 cars

Favorite race memory: Winning Talladega Sprint Cup race with David Ragan in my first season

Favorite track: Indianapolis. We stay in a cool part of town and always eat at a nice Brazilian steak house!

College attended: Doane University

Sports played in high school/college: Football

When I’m away from the track, my hobbies are: Golf, bowling, fixing up the house

Most unique item a fan has asked you to autograph: A sauce cup with his father’s ashes

Favorite superhero: Wolverine

Favorite movie: “Saving Private Ryan”

Last song listened to: “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed

Secret talent: Doing yoga

If I could only take three things with me to a deserted island, they’d be: My wife, flint and a crate of MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat)
